Services | Home Oxygen Management Solutions
The Medigas Home Oxygen Program was developed to give people the opportunity to live in the comfort of their own home while benefiting from supplemental oxygen. Whether you are entering this program for the first time or have been living with supplemental oxygen for some time, the Medigas Home Oxygen Program service is there to make this transition easier for you or to support your existing program.
Our clinical team, consisting of a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Registered Nurse take a step-by-step approach with you and your physician to develop a customized home program to meet your specific needs. This includes:
- Visiting your home to arrange for and supply all the necessary equipment and gases you need to ensure you are getting the optimum respiratory home-care possible.
- Demonstrating how to properly use your equipment.
- Providing oxygen safety education to you and your family.
The Medigas program is independent of the provincial government’s Home Oxygen program. There are several important differences between the provincial program and the Medigas program:
- It is necessary to qualify for the provincial home oxygen program. To qualify, your physician will order a special blood test, called an arterial blood gas, to determine how well your blood is able to carry oxygen. If you qualify, the provincial program will provide you with an oxygen concentrator and a back-up oxygen cylinder. A back-up cylinder is a large oxygen cylinder that can be used instead of the oxygen concentrator in the case of a power failure.
- The provincial program does not provide portable oxygen cylinders to their clients. The concentrators they provide are designed for home use only, they are considered stationary concentrators.
- You do not need to qualify for the Medigas Oxygen Program, but a prescription from a physician for oxygen is required.
- If you decide that you would like Medigas to provide your supplemental oxygen, you will be invoiced for your oxygen and equipment. If you have private insurance (for example, Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife), you may submit your receipt to your insurer, or to the Provincial Pharmacare Drug Program for reimbursement. Just like other medications, you will be reimbursed once your deductible is reached.
- Medigas has stationary concentrators, but in addition to this we have portable concentrators allowing clients the freedom to leave their homes and have a very active lifestyle. Medigas also has a variety of different sizes of oxygen cylinders allowing oxygen dependant clients the ability to find a suitable delivery system.
- In addition to this, Medigas also has liquid oxygen, this is a very favourable oxygen system for clients who are very mobile.
- There are many different oxygen systems available, Medigas staff will work with the client to determine which system best suits their needs.
- Medigas provides emergency 24 hour support to our clients.
